在眾所矚目下登場的全馬組競賽，似乎又再次告訴世人，馬拉松賽事的不可確定性，結果並非那麼容易掌握。
賽前，主辦單位所預告的三位菁英好手 : Eliud Kipchoge，Kenesia Bekele和Wilson Kipsang。在30K左右，Bekele退出了領先集團，而Kispang則是無徵兆的也退出賽道。
此後，就由Kispang 與 Adola ( Guy Adola of Ethopia）兩人以拉鋸戰的追逐，步向終點。
在約40K時，Kipsang 取回領先地位後，便一路以冠軍之姿，奔進終點，接受眾人歡呼！

此次的黑馬無疑是Adola ( Guye Adola of Ethopia），在他人生的首場馬拉松，便以2:03:46這史上最快的首馬成績贏得本屆男子馬拉松亞軍！
男子馬拉松前三名：
- Eliud Kipchoge – 2:03:32
- Guye Adola – 2:03:46
- Mosinet Geremew – 2:06:12
雖然未能刷新世界紀錄，但無阻賽事發放不同彩蛋，其中來自美國加利福尼亞州的4人團隊成功以4:53:33最快時間打入打入健力士世界紀錄大全 (以4人服裝最快完成馬拉松賽事)。
